Habitar Portugal exhibition organised by the Architects Association (OA) presents a comprehensive range of works, which on various scales and in diverse geographic and cultural environments, contribute to improving to build the settings as well as the quality of life of the citizens.
In addition to being a response to the OA’s specific responsibility for promoting architecture in Portugal and outside, this initiative should be seen as a cyclical and important opportunity for disseminating, embracing and celebrating some of the best works of architecture built in Portugal and outside the country. It should also serve as an opportunity to increase the awareness of the citizens to the role of architecture in their everyday lives and help them to understand the profession of architect. In this context one should underline that the Habitar Portugal exhibition translates the vitality of our architecture and the growing recognition of the work of architects in Portugal (a selection of works made between 2006 and 2008).
For these reasons, this third edition of Habitar Portugal – sponsored by MAPEI – has sought to consolidate and intensify the work of the previous editions within a new framework of ambitions and objectives defined by the OA’s National Executive and by Pedro Gadanho, the exhibition’s chief curator with a team of regional curators – Luísa Santos (London, executive curator), Pedro Bandeira (North), Nuno Grande (Oporto Metropolitan Area), Pedro Jordão (Centre), Luís Santiago Baptista (Lisbon Metropolitan Area), Ricardo Camacho (South), and Pedro Costa (Islands).
