Estonia: BOOM.ROOM. New Estonian Architecture

Exhibitions and Installations, Talks and Debates
19 June - 31 July
‘BOOM.ROOM. New Estonian Architecture’ at the NLA showcases the work of young architects from the country. A popular Breakfast Talk seminar will be held at the NLA on 25 June at 08.30, during which the architects will give brief presentations of their projects. The economic boom in Estonia in the last decade led to the creation of an unprecedented number of new
architectural bureaus staffed, for the most part, by young architects – who were immediately commissioned. There was so much work that it was not only the architects themselves doing the designing, but also first-year university students. The practical experience of a 33-year old Estonian architect is comparable to that of 63-year old architects elsewhere in Europe.
The country’s young architecture is contemporary, innovative and high quality – which, viewed from the outside, may seem astonishing. The exhibition and the seminar highlight this unique combination and provide an effective overview of the unique phenomenon that is young Estonian architecture.
