Islington Housing Design Competition

Exhibitions and Installations
24 - 26 June
10:00 - 17:00

Hosted by: Islington Council
Islington has a strong heritage of high quality housing from Georgian and Victorian terraces to modern housing estates such as Lubetkin's Spa Green Estate. The borough is diverse and vibrant yet also faces challenges in the areas of housing supply, health inequalities, safety and environmental sustainability.

Islington Council supported by Design for London and Homes for Islington is holding a design competition, to find a new exemplary architectural design for affordable family housing in the borough. The aim is to provide residents with a sustainable, spacious and high quality living environment and to create a style which could become as much a part of Islington’s character as its Georgian town houses.

Architects were invited to submit proposals for a site in Finsbury Park, which will be the first to be developed. The competition received 59 entries from firms from across the UK. The council will announce the short list by May and the winner will be announced at the end of Summer.

An event will be held on 24-26 June 2010 to showcase the short listed candidates as well as other submissions made.
