Festival map

The core activities of the Festival are centrally curated by the three key LFA 2010 organisations, The Architecture Foundation, NLA and RIBA London and are delivered in partnership with a number of institutions including the British Council, London Metropolitan University and Open House.

Weekend highlights

There will be three key weekends over the Festival period with the shift focusing from Central to East and finishing with activities in the South.

Central: Nash Ramblas
19 – 20 June
Working closely with The Crown Estate, the Royal Parks and Westminster City Council, RIBA London will highlight the potential of an improved pedestrian route along the Nash plan of 1811. Using visual markers on pavements and encouraging retail shops to engage in the route through window displays, the Nash Ramblas route will be unified into one procession encouraging people from on end to another. The route will explore the origins of Nash’s vision, highlighting the historic features of existing buildings and explain some of the proposals to enhance the route in contemporary times.

East: High Street 2012
26 - 27 June
High Street 2012 is the section of streets that stretch from Aldgate to Stratford and represent the last 6km of the London Olympic Marathon in 2012, as well as a wider streetscape and regeneration strategy. The High Street 2012 will host a series of LFA 2010 activities and interventions. Design for London works as a local delivery partner for this part of the LFA programme.

South: Bankside Urban Forest
3 – 4 July
The Bankside Urban Forest will form on the three key focus areas for LFA 2010 and describes the part of Southwark stretching from the riverside to Elephant and Castle and between Blackfriars Road and Borough High Street. Managed by Better Bankside the Bankside Urban Forest strategy seeks to enhance public spaces in the Bankside area. Design for London works as a local delivery partner for this part of the LFA programme.

Love Your Street
The Festival is working with My City Too, Living Streets, CABE Space, the RSA and others interested in public space and our interaction with it to look at how designers can link up with communities to propose ways of improving our direct environment. We hope to set up projects that range from finding uses and improving left over space to cleaning up and repairing pavement. Love Your Street will also connect into the Festival Cycling strategies.

My City Too!
Open House will be creating a My City Too! programme as part of LFA 2010 that will work with young people across the capital to inspire them to take an active role in making better places and spaces in London.
